Daisy Living in the Dorms? As the house president of Reid Hall in 1989-90 it was my job to inspect each room before residents moved in. Basically this entailed making a note of the furniture in each room and noting its condition. After inspecting each room I locked the doors with the master key loaned to me from Student Affairs. The night before the students were to arrive, I was up on the third floor of Reid just before dinner. I completed about half of the rooms on the side of the building closest to Dew Hall and went to dinner and a meeting. Later that night, around midnight (of course!) I returned to finish the last half of the floor. I came up the Grammer side of the building and worked towards the Reid side without noticing anything unusual until I finished all of the rooms. At this point it was about 1 a.m. I was about to go downstairs to my room on the first floor when I noticed the light on and the door open in the corner room on the Glass/Dew side. I went to check it out because I knew I had turned off the light and shut and locked the door behind me earlier in the evening. I walked into the room and noticed some plaster had fallen from the ceiling in the corner where pipe was attached to the ceiling. It had not been there when I inspected the room earlier in the evening. As I was checking out the plaster flakes on the floor the door suddenly slammed shut! Perhaps it was a draft from the open window (which was closed earlier in the evening!) or another hall president playing a joke on me? I still don't know! As it turned out that room was vacant that year, but the gals living in the room below complained to me that they heard furniture moving in that room above them late at night. Never could explain it! < Previous | Student Stories | Next > |
