A Trio of Encounters
submitted by anonymous

The Flying Book

I was in the Book Shop and it was just Carla and me.

As I was handing her the money for my books, a Webster's Dictionary that was sitting perfectly happy on the shelf and on display was suddenly launched across the room and landed on the floor near the door. Carla just looked at me and asked,"is it drafty in here?"

The Coat Rack

I was also once in the student health center when I had another ghostly experience. I was sitting on one of the exam beds so that my feet were hanging off the side. I had been there for about 40 minutes and no one had come in to check on me yet.

About 3 feet behind me stood an upright coat rack. As I hurriedly brought my arm into view so that I could see what time my watch said, the rack behind me jumped as if I had started it and it sort of sat there rocking back and forth and a bag that was hanging on it started swinging around the rack. It eventually slowed down and came to a halt. That's the last time I went to the health center!

The Stacks

Lastly, I thought I had forgotten an outline to a paper in the main library. However it was 2 a.m. and closed so I had to call campus police to help me.

When Lisa came to open the door we started down to the stacks. We couldn't find the light switch in the movie room, however, so Lisa just used her flashlight.

We went down to the stacks and I unfortunately could not find my paper.

As we were looking, the officer told a story about how both her and her partner had had ghostly experiences in the library at night when they were checking things out.

Both had heard what sounded like the scuffing of shoes across the way. When they pointed their flashlights, however, they saw no one. Then they would be overcome with this feeling of not being wanted in the library and also as if someone were standing over their shoulder and the hairs on the back of their necks would rise.

The cops' partner now refuses to go into the library even during the day. Well, since I couldn't find my paper, we decided to leave. As we were going upstairs into the movie room, we found that the light was on even though we hadn't been able to find the switch.

We quickly searched the room, found the switch, and left.

I went back to study and rewrite my outline, but first I sat down and chatted into the air about my paper to whomever had taken it.

I told them that I'd like to be friends with them and that I was sorry if I had offended them in any way...well, I got up to write my outline again, and alas! there it was, sitting right underneath my stack that I had gone through 20 times before!

This may be by circumstance, but I choose to believe that it really was one of the ghosts from Sweet Briar coming to visit and to check up on us to see how we are faring!

I dont' want to submit my name, please understand. I fear that no one would believe me, yet if I remain anonymous, no one will make fun of me. Thanks for you time though! :)
